Start Before the Last Minute
Renewing a Firearm Licence involves several steps, some of which depend on the availability of a licensed shooting range and valid documents. Check the expiry date early, read the official notice sent to you and create a short task list.
Check What Is Required in Your Case
Open the official renewal service and check the current instructions. Requirements may vary according to the type of licence, renewal date and individual circumstances. Do not rely on an old screenshot or information forwarded in a group.
Gather the Documents
Prepare in advance:
- Valid identification.
- Your current Firearm Licence.
- Any approvals or forms listed in the renewal notice.
- Payment details or proof of payment, if required.
- Details of the licensed shooting range where the training will take place.
Keep an organised digital copy of the approvals, but bring the physical documents required by the instructions.

Arrange Refresher Training at a Licensed Shooting Range
According to the official service page when we checked it, refresher training for private licence holders includes a practical component and a qualification test. Programme details, the number of rounds and the passing score appear on the government website and may be updated. Arrange the training at a licensed shooting range and follow the instructor's directions.
After the Training
Make sure you receive confirmation that the refresher training was completed and that every stage of the process has been recorded. If the application status is unclear, contact the Firearm Licensing Division through its official service channels. Do not assume that completing the training alone completes the renewal process.
Quick Checklist
- The expiry date has been checked and entered in the calendar.
- The official service page has been opened and the instructions read.
- The documents and payment have been prepared.
- A session has been arranged at a licensed shooting range.
- The training confirmation has been saved.
- The renewal status has been checked after completing the steps.
